About Claire Fraser

I’ve always been creative, but lacked drawing skills, so when my Grandpa handed me my first camera at the age of 10, I found a new and amazing creative outlet.  By 15, photography became my ambition.

In 2001 I graduated with honours from Massey University where I studied a Bachelor of Photographic Design. With background knowledge in film and darkroom, I entered the workforce where I was plunged into a relatively new world of digital photography at The Dominion Post. As an Illustrations Assistant and Photographer, I was fortunate to work with talented and respected photographers who helped me learn how to not only capture people, but also their stories. Three years later I moved to The Bay of Plenty Times as a Staff Photographer, where I expanded my skills even further in documentary and action shots.

Searching for a new adventure, my husband and I (and our two kids) took the plunge in 2011 to move to Hong Kong. It was there I launched my portrait and advertising photography business, which quickly flourished. Now, after 8 years, we have returned home to New Zealand, but one foot is still firmly in Hong Kong. I continue to manage my photography business from here by commuting back for large projects.

Photography is my passion. I love that each day is varied, exciting, challenging and enriching. What will I shoot tomorrow?
